Meet actor, Scott James Smith, spending his inaugural season the Bigfork Summer Playhouse!
What role(s) do you play at the BSP?
King Arthur — Spamalot
Herr Zeller — Sound of Music
Ensemble/Judge — Chicago
Ensemble — Legally Blonde (I just did Legally Blonde at my school–Webster University–in April, so I’m really excited to be a part of it again with a whole new team!)
How long have you been involved in theatre? I DO have a “story:” My mom has done theatre and commercials most of her life (her mother was a local choreographer in a small town in Michigan), so I grew up knowing of/about theatre. It wasn’t until eighth grade, though, that I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life.
I was with my family that winter seeing the then-new Peter Pan movie (with Jeremy Sumpter and Jason Isaacs) in theaters. It was about half way through the movie that I all of the sudden had the realization that I should be doing that! The kid up on that big screen playing Peter was not doing ANYTHING that I couldn’t do!
It was this weird epiphany moment, and I didn’t even want to finish the movie, I was so jealous. It was from that moment on I started taking dance classes and voice lessons and making theatre a priority in my life. I was 13 years old then, and ten years later, here I am in Bigfork, MT, and I’m a professional actor!
How long have you been at Bigfork Summer Playhouse? This is my very first year at Bigfork, and I’m so glad to be here! One of my friends worked up here a number of summers ago, and ever since then I’ve really wanted a chance to spend the summer with this company, so that makes this even more exciting!
What else would you like to add to your feature that has not been asked? I’ve grown up on/in/around the water, so I can’t wait to explore the lake more and maybe do some slalom skiing or barefooting!
