Welcome back to Ian LeRoy! Originally from Orwell, Ohio, Ian returns to the Bigfork Summer Playhouse for a second season and we are very excited to have him back! Below are responses to questions we asked Ian about his career in music and theatre.
What role(s) do you play at the BSP this season?
I am the music director and pianist for West Side Story. I also play keyboards for Thoroughly Modern Millie, Tarzan, and The Full Monty.
What is your personal history with theatre?
Fun fact: My first musical theatre experience was as Baby John in West Side Story! That was 8 long years ago in 2006. My freshmen year of college I started music directing shows, and have since music directed Godspell, Company, Shrek, Edges, and many others.
This is my second year at Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Last year I was the vocal music director for Chicago thanks to a reference from director (and good friend) Kevin P. Kern.
What is your favorite thing to do in your “off” time while staying in Bigfork?
My favorite thing to do in Bigfork is appreciate the beautiful scenery. I’m looking forward to visiting Glacier National Park later on in the summer!
What are your plans after the BFSP season ends?
I’m looking to continue pursuing a career in music directing musical theatre!
What else would you like to add? I recently graduated with a B.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio. I’ve performed and conducted an awful lot of classical literature, and West Side Story is definitely some of the hardest music I’ve ever worked on. Huge kudos to the cast and pit orchestra for diving into this score and making great work of it!
And, thanks to my parents… for everything!
