A warm welcome back to Nikki Spies of Jacksonville, Florida! Nikki is back for a fifth season at the Bigfork Summer Playhouse. Read her responses to interview questions and see why she keeps finding her way back to Bigfork!
What role(s) do you play at the BSP this season?
This season I will be playing Lucy van Pelt in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Rosalia in “West Side Story,” Muzzy Van Hossmere in “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” Jungle Citizen in “Tarzan,” and Jeanette in “The Full Monty.” Also I will be the director of the “Benefit Review” in late July and one of the cast members of the post show.
What is your personal history with theatre?
I started out in my school choir. I would go with my best friend to her dance classes and just knew that I had to do that too. From there I started auditioning for the school musicals, which then lead to my auditioning for Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (a Grammy award winning arts school in Jacksonville, FL).
After high school, I gained the confidence to start auditioning for college programs, so that I could really hone my skills. I ended up at Jacksonville University, where I received my BFA in Musical Theatre in May 2012. That year I was also awarded the College of Fine Arts “Student of the Year” and “Excellence in Musical Theatre.”
How long have you been at Bigfork Summer Playhouse?
This will be my fifth year at the playhouse! I ended up here after attending SETC, a yearly theatre conference held in the southeast. I love it here!!
What is your favorite thing to do in your “off” time while staying in Bigfork?
I love going to the lake. We work so hard for the first seven weeks that the payoff of our days off is truly magical. Wayfarers State Park is my happy place and one of the places I like to visit just to just release.
What are your plans after the BFSP season ends?
I will be going back to Southern California where I will be auditioning for everything I can get my hands on and doing some tv/film work.
