Welcome back for a second season, Ryan Thomas! From Boise, Idaho, Ryan is a woodwinds musician who recently graduated from the University of Idaho. We’re excited that Ryan is back with the Bigfork Summer Playhouse for our 55th season!
Following are Ryan’s responses to the questions we asked him.
What role(s) do you play at the BSP this season?
I play woodwinds with the Playhouse Ensemble, specifically piccolo, flute, clarinet, recorders, and soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. I’ll be performing in the main-season shows — West Side Story, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Tarzan, and The Full Monty.
What is your personal history with theatre?
I’ve had the opportunity to play with a few different theatres, including the Idaho Shakespeare Festival (Boise, ID), the Spotlight Theatre (Nampa, ID) and the Music Theatre of Idaho (Nampa, ID). Playing in pit orchestras has been a great challenge over the years, and working with the BSP is no different — from heavily rewriting parts to performing on a variety of instruments, it’s very demanding– but I love it!
This is my second season with the BSP. Last summer was unforgettable! I was flattered to receive an invitation to return for the 2014 season – thanks to DT, Frank, Brach, and Dwayne for giving me this opportunity to return to such a great place and work with an awesome company!
What is your favorite thing to do in your “off” time while in Bigfork?
Visiting Glacier National Park, Bear Foods, the Garden Bar, the Roost, Bigfork Inn, Burgertown, Flathead Lake…the list goes on! The best part is that there is so much more that I have yet to experience here in Bigfork.
What are your plans after the BFSP season ends?
I have recently graduated from the University of Idaho with a M.M. in Saxophone Performance. I’m hoping to get a job performing with a cruise line once this season is over.
What else would you like to add?
