How long have you been at Bigfork Summer Playhouse?
First season! I’m so thrilled to be working with this wonderful company with strong leadership and a supportive community.

Kayla_Boye_Photo_3Please share your personal history with theatre.
I enjoy all aspects of the arts, including administration, performance, and being part of the audience. Since graduating from Youngstown State University, I have spent the past two years in Chicago at Goodman Theatre and Writers Theatre focusing on development and marketing, while also performing and choreographing for various companies. This summer offered the amazing opportunity to renew my creative spirit and meet talented artists from across the country, and I am grateful for the new friendships and mentorships this season presents.

My love of theatre has always existed, thanks to a supportive family who has encouraged a love of the arts and allowed my passions to flourish. I studied dance from a young age, particularly enjoying my ballet experiences, as they encouraged narration through dance. The storytelling and emotional investment required of ballet led to my interest in drama, and throughout high school and college, I heavily pursued all aspects of theatre on the regional, educational, and community levels.

My favorite roles to date include Roxie Hart in “Chicago” (Youngstown Playhouse), Stella in “A Streetcar Named Desire” (Youngstown State University), and Louise in “Carousel” (Huron Playhouse), although I’ve enjoyed so many experiences, it’s impossible to name them all. I can’t wait to add to that list while at Bigfork Summer Playhouse!

What is your favorite thing to do in your “off” time while staying in Bigfork?
As we are keeping quite busy during the rehearsal process, we haven’t yet had much time to explore the sights! However, I was able to visit Glacier National Park my first weekend here, where the wildlife was breathtaking and the scenery spectacular. I look forward to returning later this summer with fellow company members and my family. Between rehearsals, we’ve been able to enjoy some great local businesses downtown, including Pocketstone Cafe, Montana Scene, Garden Bar, and Kiska’s by the Lake, as well as Flathead Lake Brewing Company. These all pair well with frequent visits to Montana Athletic Club, which has a fantastic facility and a great staff!

Kayla_Boye_Photo_2What are your plans after the BFSP season ends?
Following the closing of the revue in early September, I will be returning to Chicago to continue my artistic pursuits, all the richer for my experiences at Bigfork this summer.
